Northyz Flat - Our Eco Flat

This is us! and we have an eco flat and are keen to make it even more eco friendly

Cam, Alanah, Mike, Kelli .. oh and tequila the cat

We always close the thermal backed curtains and turn off the lights when not in the room.

We sell all our unwanted things on trade me so we don't need to throw them away! all our old clothes that are not worth selling we donate them in the clothing bins.

And we love our new washing machine balls, and the eco bulb

Our flat is furnished with hand me downs from our parents and items from trade me.

We have a lemon tree, seven strawberry plants, a swede, a rosemary plant, two roses and some tulip bulbs.To keep them growing great we have made a system, we have got some cow poos from the dairy farm mike works on. Then we put the poos into old stockings and put them in a bucket filled with greywater from the washing machine, we then use the water from the bucket (with the poo juice) to feed the plants. makes them grow great!

We collect our banana skins to put on the roses

We have a compost bin, we use the compost to fill the base of the pots. This means we get to save all our food scraps, and make a use for them! We save our meat scraps for our friends dog.

We get home grown fruit and veges (potatoes, mandarins etc) sent from kelli and cams parents, and had a cattle beast bought down from cams parents at the start of the year and were still going on it!...We do heaps of home baking to save packaging!

We re-use container, etc for things like storing pens etc, take away containers are great for keeping food. We save boxes and containers for later packaging.

We use old wood to build new things such as the gardening stand, mike's dog box, and tool box.
